Approach to International Services
Robert Surber's approach to providing international services focuses on well established premises and principles
for implementing state-of-the-art health and social services. Whether consulting on program development or providing staff training and development this work requires tailoring evidence based models to local cultures,
circumstances, priorities, and resources. This means defining on the concepts and principles that underpin these
models, and supporting the implementation of enhanced services that build on existing programs and systems of care.
To date Robert Surber's international experience has been centered in Western Europe where he has supported
the development of high quality mental health services for seriously mentally ill individuals. He is also very interested in working in developing countries where he believes healthcare and social services for high need
populations can be greatly enhanced by by incorporating cultural concepts of health and well being, by utilizing indigenous resources, and by building on the existing service systems.
